Our Story
Since he was a small child, the founder of LITA’S WAY, Miguel Salvati, remembers
his Lita (Short for Grandmother, in Spanish) from Honduras, would always give his mother unique products that could help heal a variety of hair and skin conditions
as well as products to improve the overall health of her immune system.
Almost 40 years later, Miguel went to Honduras and was introduced to a local
who knew everything about the ingredient called Calaguala. It has been used for
Centuries for its amazing and natural healing properties. Curious about its
effectiveness, Miguel brought some back home to try for himself.
One day, his mother was over for lunch and Miguel had left the Calaguala on the
table. To his surprise, his mother recognized it and quickly asked him with a voice of excitement, “Miguel, is this pure Calaguala? Where did you get this from??” She couldn’t believe that the same Calaguala her mother (Miguel’s Lita) gave her as a young girl, would make its way back into her life after so many decades. Miguel said that it is 100% pure Calaguala and was given to him from a friend in Honduras. Miguel’s mother told Miguel of a story on how her Tia Stelita suffered tremendously from Arthritis. The pain was so severe and uncomfortable, yet many efforts to treat her condition had failed. Her Lita, (Grandmother) had given her some Calaguala that had been used for generations as a tradition and was passed down from her Lita. Over time, she noticed her arthritis had disappeared.
Fascinated with the story, Miguel reached out to his family and Honduran friend, and wanted to know everything that there was to know about Calaguala. He quickly learned that Calaguala, is the common name for the fern plant, Polypodium Leucotomos. It is viewed as an ancient medicinal plant that has been used by a local indigenous community of Quechua for over 2000 years. The Quechua people have been using it as a daily ritual in the form of a tea, even to this day. Calaguala can be found in areas such as the jungles of Honduras and the rainforests of South America.
The Quechua population are well known for their soft, clear, and youthful skin while being less prone to common skin pathologies such as acne, psoriasis, Eczema, Vitiligo, and many others. Those who use it daily, exude a youthfulness of both inner health and outer beauty that comes from a healthy support of their immune system. Calaguala has been backed by clinical studies showing the effectiveness of treating skin disorders that are caused by a weak immune system.
With this fascinating story, Miguel wanted to bring rare ingredients and products to the world that were passed down over centuries, from generation to generation, by all the grandmothers and the indigenous people in the rainforest of Central America.
& Lita’s Way was born.
